Accessibility
The Pile Dwelling Museum is largely barrier-free and suitable for people with disabilities. There are parking spaces for the disabled next to the museum. Ramps and walkways provide access to the open-air museum at ground level. For its great accessibility features, the Pile Dwelling Museum received the Inclusion Plus Award for accessibility in 2022.
Not all houses in the open-air area are fully accessible. However, most have extended doors and can be accessed from one side. For groups with sensory or motor disabilities, we ask that you register in advance to better organize your visit.
Entrance Fees
People with disabilities receive a €1 discount at the museum entrance/ticket office. The prerequisite for this is the presentation of an appropriate identification document and a valid ID card for disabled people. If a guest has an exceptional walking disability or blindness, an accompanying person can enter the museum for free.
If there is no exceptional walking disability or blindness, both the guest and his accompanying person pay the reduced entrance fee.
For All Your Senses
Open-air museums are specially designed for an unhindered experience of history and nature. All seven human senses are addressed. This is particularly true for the Pile Dwellings of Unteruhldingen due to their location on Lake Constance. Hearing, tasting, smelling, seeing, touching and also the senses of balance and movement are all supported during your visit.
Active explanations are given at the information stations. Boards in German, English, French and Italian provide information. Small museum guides with multilingual texts add to your experience – they are available at the museum entrance for a small fee. Further information in different languages can be downloaded here.
Smelling, Tasting, Hearing
The lake, the lakeside forest, the pile dwellings and all the substances and materials used since the Stone Age offer today’s people new and exciting ways to experience life.
Parking Spaces For The Disabled
There are parking spaces for the disabled in the immediate vicinity of the museum for those with a valid permission.
Museum Guide In Braille
For guests with sensory disabilities, museum guides in Braille are available. They are disinfected before and after each visit.
